About the Governors

Welcome from the Governors

As a Board of Governors, we are passionate about upholding the vision and ethos of St Anne's Church of England Primary School.  We have a varied range of skills and abilities which we bring to the school to lead and develop in line with the School Improvement Plan.  We are a committed team of leaders who believe in St Anne's and are proud of the work of the school staff and its children.  We will continue to support the school as Governors and as volunteers to ensure it continues to be awesome

I have been a Governor at St Anne's School for over six years and became Chair in 2016, after serving 2 years as Vice Chair. I have also chaired the Resources Committee for almost 5 years.

In my professional role I have 30 years experience in commercial sales mainly in the information technology sector where I worked with many educational institutions. At St Anne’s I am involved in Safeguarding and Financial matters in addition to my role as Chair, leading a committed and passionate team of Governors who have a great range of skills and attributes and are always ready to give their time and enthusiasm to focus on improving outcomes for all our school family. One of my best days as a Governor was in 2017 spent accompanying Year 6 on their trip to the Houses of Parliament.  I am passionate about giving our children extraordinary experiences alongside the very best education to prepare them for life.

I am proud of what we have achieved at the school over the past few years and excited about the future as we continue on our improvement journey.

On a personal level, I have two grown up children and a grandson.  I enjoy travelling both abroad and closer to home. My hobbies include sewing and other crafts, reading, theatre and music.

I am delighted to be able to serve St Anne's as a Foundation Governor, especially during this exciting period of the school's development. I work as a school's adviser for the Diocese of Manchester and also as an independent educational consultant. My background is in secondary education and I was headteacher of three North West high schools over a period of 17 years. My current work involves me with many  primary and secondary schools throughout Greater Manchester and Liverpool.

My wife and I live in Oldham. We are active members of St Thomas's Church, Delph. We have two grown-up sons. I also enjoy reading, gardening, travelling, being a grandad and supporting Huddersfield Town.

I have been a Governor at our fantastic school since October 2016.  I'm sure that we all want the very best for our children and for them to achieve academically.  Equally, we want them make friends,  have fun learning, and to be happy along their journey through school.  My daughter absolutely loves every aspect of school life at St Anne's.  The staff, children, and parents of St Anne's all contribute to making our lives as governors an absolute pleasure.

My job is, Premises Manager at Haslingden High School.  I do all of the practical stuff like maintenance and dealing with contractors and Health and safety. In my spare time I love spending time outdoors walking and watching football (Manchester City) .

I was delighted to have my application to join the Governing Board agreed earlier this year.  My role is still developing as I get to know the systems and structures, aims and values within St Anne’s School.

Over many years, the workings of schools have become very familiar to me, even though all schools have their own individual characteristics.   I trained as a teacher many years ago and have worked in a range of schools, teaching all subjects from Foundation Stage to A-Level, where French was my main subject!  During the last 20 working years, I worked as Headteacher in a number of schools around the north of England, where my main focus was School Improvement.  I enjoyed helping make positive changes and improving work-life balance for everyone!

On a personal note, I have two grown up children and three grandchildren, one who is loving learning in Y2  I am currently refurbishing my house, developing my garden and enjoying discovering the area.  Any spare time is spent reading,  and being creative in many different ways, along with walking my two giddy dogs.

I have been a governor for four years and sit on the Standards and Effectiveness Committee and the Curriculum Committee which, with my knowledge of the school and curriculum, I feel I can make the best contribution to. It has been a real pleasure to work with the Governing Board to develop our mission and vision, we are a team with great vitality! I am also link governor for Computing and Music.

I have been a Governor at St Anne's School since late 2016, having absolutely no prior knowledge of education except what I remember from my school experience in the 80’s (which isn’t a lot).  Safe to say it has been a steep but interesting, engaging, rewarding, sometimes exciting and on occasion awesome learning curve!  The highlight of the last two years was hearing from the Ofsted inspector on how great our school was and his recognition of how hard everyone, including children and all the staff, are working to make the school the best it can be.

Working with my governor colleagues, I Chair the Standards and Effectiveness Committee and support the committees on resources (where the money goes) and pay.  My day job is split between my management consultancy business, Executive Director of an economic growth partnership called Atlantic Gateway and various voluntary roles with environmental charities including Community Forest Trust and the Canal and River Trust.  My two children attend St Anne’s and love it.  When I get chance I love to sail and fly about Yorkshire on my motorbike.

Charlotte Hartley - Ex-Officio (Headteacher)

  • Roles on Governing Board: Headteacher
  • Committees: Resources Committee, Curriculum Committee, Standards & Effectiveness Committee
  • Date of Appointment: 06/01/2014
  • Appointed By: Headteacher appointment
  • Appointment End: 05/01/2018 (renewed to 05/01/2022)

I began teaching in 1999 and have worked in a range of schools in Blackburn, Liverpool, Pendle and Rossendale.  In 2002, I qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher enabling me to support others on school improvement projects through outreach work. I also spent time working as a Teaching and Learning Consultant, again with a focus on supporting schools with their school improvement journeys.

Following this, I became a Deputy Headteacher in a school with approximately 220 children on roll and I was the leader for the school in the following areas: Key Stage 2 Leader, Assessment for Learning, Foreign Languages, Healthy Schools and Student Mentoring.

I have been a Headteacher since 2009, and in post as Headteacher at St Anne’s since January 2014. Our school is a nurturing environment and is regularly commended by visitors on the ‘special feeling’ that it has. We are committed to developing the ‘whole’ child. It is a privilege to work with such a forward-thinking team who share the vision for St Anne’s - that we were made to be ‘awesome’, to be the best we can be, to live life in all its’ fullness and to make a difference.

Whenever I can, I very much enjoy being active, and I regularly swim, run, cycle and walk both for enjoyment and on a competitive level. I love to be outdoors, appreciating the beauty and wonderment of nature.
